Reviews and Moderation Policy

This document is a working draft and should be reviewed by a qualified UK solicitor before ZipLocal's full public launch.

This policy explains how ZipLocal reviews and moderates business listings and other content submitted to or published on the ZipLocal website. It applies to all users, including businesses with listings and members of the public.

1. What this policy covers

This policy covers:

  • Business listings submitted through the ZipLocal registration process.
  • Offers and events associated with business listings.
  • Reports submitted by visitors about listings they believe are inaccurate, misleading or inappropriate.

ZipLocal does not currently operate a public user-review or star-rating system where members of the public can submit reviews of businesses. Any ratings shown on listings are managed by ZipLocal and are not user-generated reviews. This policy will be updated if a public review feature is introduced.

2. How listings are reviewed

All business listings submitted to ZipLocal are reviewed by the ZipLocal team before publication. We check that:

  • The listing appears to represent a genuine business operating in the United Kingdom.
  • The content complies with our Business Listing Terms and Acceptable Use Policy.
  • The content is not false, misleading, defamatory, discriminatory or otherwise harmful.
  • Images and logos submitted appear to belong to the business.

We do not independently verify the identity, qualifications, insurance, certifications or trading history of any listed business. Inclusion in the directory is not an endorsement or guarantee.

We aim to review new listing submissions within five working days. Submission does not guarantee publication.

3. Ongoing moderation

Once published, listings remain subject to ongoing moderation. We may review, edit, suspend or remove a listing at any time if we become aware that it:

  • Contains inaccurate, misleading or out-of-date information.
  • Breaches our Business Listing Terms or Acceptable Use Policy.
  • Has been reported by a visitor.
  • Relates to a business that has ceased trading or changed significantly.

4. Reporting a listing

If you believe a listing on ZipLocal contains inaccurate, misleading, defamatory or otherwise inappropriate content, you can report it using the "Report this listing" link on the listing page, or by contacting us directly.

When reporting a listing, please provide:

  • The name of the business listing you are reporting.
  • A description of the content you believe is inaccurate or inappropriate.
  • Any supporting information you can provide.

We will acknowledge all reports and aim to investigate within five working days. We will take appropriate action, which may include contacting the business to request corrections, editing the listing, or removing it.

We will not share your identity with the business you have reported without your consent, unless we are required to do so by law.

5. Our moderation decisions

ZipLocal's moderation decisions are final. We are not obliged to publish any listing or to give reasons for declining or removing a listing.

If your listing has been removed and you believe this was in error, please contact us and we will review the decision. Please see our Complaints and Takedown Procedure for more information.
