Why we built ZipLocal
Independent businesses are the backbone of local communities. They create jobs, support local suppliers, and give towns and villages their character. But too often, people simply don't know they exist — or can't find the information they need to visit them.
ZipLocal was built to change that. We wanted to create a directory that's genuinely useful for local people — one that's easy to search, honest about what it contains, and free for businesses to join.
We're starting in North Yorkshire, a region with a rich network of independent businesses, markets, events and community organisations. Our goal is to make it easier for people to discover and support them — and to give those businesses a proper online presence without the cost and complexity of building their own website.
ZipLocal is in its early stages. The listings you see now are sample entries that show what the directory will look like. Real businesses are being added as we launch. If you run a local business, we'd love to have you on board.
